Romainian Cello 1998

“And let’s be honest, there are times when rolling up to a Friday night open mic with a priceless Strad isn’t exactly the smartest move.”
Romanian Cello 1998
This is our most affordable cello — but don’t let the price fool you. While I have an enduring passion for hunting down the finest instruments, I’m a player at heart, and always will be. One of the reasons this little shop exists is because of a simple revelation: with the right care and attention to setup, even modest instruments can play beautifully and sound far better than you’d expect.
And why does that matter? Because music should be for everyone — regardless of budget. And let’s be honest, there are times when rolling up to a Friday night open mic with a priceless Strad isn’t exactly the smartest move. I’ve done countless gigs in dimly lit pubs and gloriously scruffy venues, with the crowd half-singing, half-shouting along, and yes — occasionally spilling a pint on the cello.
So when I say some cellos just need to sound good, be reliable, and make music happen — I really mean it. This Romanian cello from 1998 is just that: honest, well-prepared, and ready to play.
Condition
This cello is in as new condition — clean, solid, and ready to go. Full disclosure though (because that’s how we do things here): like many cellos at the more affordable end, there’s a bit of sleight of hand involved. The wood is veneered, not carved from the traditional spruce and maple you’d find on higher-end instruments.

The setup
But here’s where this cello flips the script — it’s had a proper setup, something that even some pricier instruments miss out on. A new soundpost, carefully fitted and adjusted, and a set of professional-grade strings: Evah Pirazzi on the bottom, Larsen on the top. That right there is the trick that makes it all worthwhile. It’s proof that when setup is done right, even a humble cello can sing.
The Sound
Clear and well-balanced, this cello has a simple, honest tone — and that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s part of the charm. You can really hear what you’re playing, which makes it a great partner for developing control, confidence, and accuracy.
There’s depth and power when you need it, but let’s be real: this isn’t the cello for setting off on some poetic, nuanced tonal voyage. What it is, however, is the kind of instrument that comes alive with a pickup and transducer — fun, reliable, and ready to gig. If you’re stepping into amplified playing, busking, or throwing yourself into a lively open mic night, this cello is up for it.

Spread the load
When purchasing a cello, choosing a flexible payment method like PayPal, Klarna, or Stripe can help spread the cost. PayPal offers Pay in 4 or PayPal Credit for installment payments, Klarna allows you to split payments into interest-free installments, and Stripe supports buy now, pay later options. These methods provide a secure way to manage your budget while investing in a quality instrument. Always check terms and conditions to find the best option for you.
