The Hidersine Melodioso is a thoughtfully handcrafted cello made in China to high specifications and then carefully set up by us. While its origin places it among affordable student instruments, it offers much more than the standard beginner’s cello. Made with hand-carved solid tonewoods—a spruce top and ‘flamed’ maple back and sides—it looks and sounds like an instrument built to last. To get the best from this cello, we fit a new soundpost, the highest-quality bridge, and a set of professional-grade strings as part of a full, expert setup. The result is an instrument that plays with ease, warmth, and a surprisingly wide tonal range. The Melodioso offers great value for beginners and serious students ready to take the next step in their playing journey.

Condition
This Hidersine Melodioso cello is in as-new condition, with no signs of wear or damage. The varnish is clean and evenly applied, and all fittings are intact and well-aligned. It has been carefully checked and adjusted to ensure it meets our exacting standards
The setup
We’ve given this cello a full professional setup, designed to bring out its best tonal qualities and ensure comfortable, responsive playability. The A string is fitted with a Larsen Soloist (Soft), the D with Larsen Soloist, and the G and C strings are Jargar Superior — a combination that balances warmth, projection, and clarity. The bridge is a top-tier Despiau “Three Tree”, offering excellent precision and tonal transmission. The fingerboard has been planed and adjusted as needed, and the soundpost and bridge are expertly fitted for optimal resonance and balance.
The Sound
The Melodioso offers a full, rich tone with warmth and clarity across all registers. The solid carved spruce top and figured maple back help project the sound well, giving it a mature voice that's ideal for ensemble or solo playing. It responds easily under the bow and has the depth and complexity one might expect from a more expensive instrument.
